POLS 374 - Policy memo examples

This memo, written by a student at the University of Denver won 1st prize in a contest on policy memos. It is useful to consder for its form and tightness.

You may also want to look at this essay that took second prize. Note that it is a bit more long winded. Compare the two and consider why the one was the first prize winner and the other not. But both are useful in terms of orienting yourself to what a policy memo is all about.

Here is an old memo written to the Secretary of Defense from his deputy.

Here is a very nice memo on Iran.

Paul Tibbets: 1915 - 2007

Paul Tibbets was the pilot of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

LA Times story.

Tibbets apparently did not grant many interviews. NPR interviewed him in 2000. Note that he says there is no morality in war.

NY Times article.
