POLS 205 - Shively chapter 2 coming tomorrow + health care links
I'm having technical difficulties scanning Shively's chapter at home. I will have to scan this at USC in the morning.
In the meantime check out some of the health care politics links below:

Don't stop here. Do your own search too! Remember, I'm interested in the politics of health care in America, not necessarily the economics. Email me with questions/comments/suggestions.

POLS 205-Assignment for Thurs, Sept. 27
What is the health care debate in this country about? There are more than 47 million Americans without health insurance. Costs rise every year.
First, read this article (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/18802). Don’t fixate on the economics. Then do a little research about the debate. What are politicians saying about health care in this country? Hillary Clinton just released her plan for a national health care system that would provide health insurance for everyone. What was the response from other candidates (of both parties)?
What types of comments do you hear in this debate? I’m not so much interested in the economics of health care as the politics of health care. Why is it such a touchy subject? Hint: As you think about this, keep in mind the theme for Thursday's class.
Extra credit: In 5 minutes or less, tell us what happened in the 1993 with the Clinton health care plan.

POLS 205 - Some questions for the Karl Rove article
Where should the line be drawn between politics (governing) and political strategy (a permanent Republican revolution)?
If a person is elected as president, do s/he have a greater responsibility to those who voted for him/her?
Rove had an idea to force "realignment" (see paragraphs 12, 23) that consisted of five major components. What do think about this? Was Rove interested in better government or simply in securing Republican dominance? Or both?
From what you know about Karl Rove, is the article a fair assessment of him?
